Postnatal recovery is a long journey, and the first six weeks are particularly important. Your pregnancy hormones have caused a lot of changes over nine months, and baby's delivery (whether vaginal or Caesarean) means your body needs extra care. 

A postnatal assessment with a Women's Health Physiotherapist is recommended six weeks post-delivery. This is different from your appointment with your obstetrician, and an important part of postnatal recovery. In this assessment we will screen, assess, and treat you for any bladder, bowel, pelvic floor, abdominal muscle, or musculoskeletal issues.

Tamara Crook

Tamara is a postgraduate Continence and Women’s Health physiotherapist, and Southcare Physiotherapy’s coordinator of inpatient and outpatient women’s health physiotherapy services for St John of God Murdoch.

Tamara started working for Southcare after graduating from Curtin University, with a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy. Tamara has a Masters in Clinical Physiotherapy (Continence and Women’s Health), and has completed the 12 month Lifecare Pilates training course. She enjoys pregnancy and postnatal physiotherapy, and working on the SJOG Murdoch St Mary’s maternity ward. Tamara hosts antenatal and postnatal hydrotherapy classes as well as Clinical Pilates classes at Southcare.


Robyn Hickmott

Robyn is a physiotherapist with over 30yrs experience. She graduated from Curtin University in 1986, and has added post-graduate qualifications in Sports Physiotherapy (1992) and Continence & Womens Health (2009). The first 8 years of her career were spent gaining invaluable experience in the public hospital system at Bentley Hospital, RPH and in a Senior Musculoskeletal role at Osborne Park Hospital. Since 1992 she has worked exclusively in sports medicine clinics and private practice.


Taryn Watson

Taryn graduated from Physiotherapy at Curtin University in 2007 and started working for LifeCare as her first job in 2008. During her first year of work she was based on the hospital wards at St John of God Hospital, including the wonderful maternity ward there. During this year, she also completed the 12 month LifeCare Pilates Training Course. It was over this year that she realised that she wanted to spend her career working with women during the childbearing year.

Chelsie Doncon

Chelsie joined Southcare in 2015 following the completion of her studies at Curtin University and is currently working in the outpatient department. Chelsie has a keen interest in the treatment and rehabilitation of injuries within the sporting population and is hoping to complete further studies in this area in the future. 


Briana McWhirter

Briana graduated from University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and commenced working at SouthCare as an outpatient physiotherapist. Throughout her degree she worked at Peel Thunder Football Club as a physiotherapy assistant. During this time she gained experience in a variety of sporting injuries and assisted in rehabilitating players back to optimal fitness.  Along with sport, Briana has a strong interest in Women’s Health and further developing her skills within the area. 


Rachelle Symons

Rachelle has over 20 years of experience as a physiotherapist, graduating from Curtin University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy. She has worked in public hospitals, private practice clinics and in the community where she has gained experience in treating women and men with bladder and bowel issues. Rachelle holds a Graduate Certificate in Continence and Women’s Health Physiotherapy.
